A glance at the various definitions of what psychopath means, antisocial is the common underlining thread. Out of the six definitions to choose from on ref.com, only one includes empathy and remorse. In that definition, these terms are used as product of behavior arising out an antisocial personality.
It is my best understanding of the personality of a psychopath, after close contact with one for nearly every waking hour for over a 1,000 days, that the inability to feel empathy is the bottom line to a psychopath, and the lack of remorse and contrary to social norms (antisocial) is the manifested outcomes of this lack.
The potentially dangerous outcomes of these individual’s unwrapped in empathy desire driven behavior is what psychopath needs to mean to everybody else. Without empathy, social interaction norms are only taught, and never felt. Leaving their behavior dangerously unpredictable for others.
If you think that sticking around a psychopath to teach them the norms is the right thing to do, not good. Especially if the psychopath has honed their skills. No motivation for them to change (or learn) new behaviors in view of their trail of success.
In light of the fact they have no empathy, everything they do is success. It is you that doesn’t think so. Go ahead and bang your head against the wall if you must.
Evaluating other individuals based on our own assumptions that everyone behaves within social norms is the basis for why their obvious anti-norms is commonly overlooked until it is too late. What it means to be a psychopath is living a life in absence of empathy and the corresponding behavioral outcomes is one of predation.
No matter the type of relationship involvement with a psychopath, the interaction is one of prey and predator. Manipulation of the prey’s empathy in a stalked like approach until such time the predator goes in for the kill.
What psychopath means is difficult for the psyche types to pin down. Observance of them without being their prey is not an easy task. These folks are highly skilled at telling you what you want to hear.
Your life may depend on a definition that highlights a lack of empathy, wherein your intuition screams for you to run. Please don’t let your own empathy step in the way.
